Sharp hormonal fluctuations, often occurring during ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy, premenopause, and menopause, can trigger adult acne. Women may see their acne suddenly develop, or worsen, during these periods of life.

What Is The Cause Of Acne?

The skin needs a certain amount of oil to maintain its natural condition. However, over activity of these sebaceous glands-or oil glands, cause excess secretions of oily substances onto the skin. This over activity is triggered by none other than, your hormones.

The area around a hair follicle and the the pore can become clogged with the excess of sebum. Bacteria can thrive within the blocked pore. Even though these breakouts are usually mild to moderate and significant scarring is unusual, it can be difficult to live with.

When excess sebum gets trapped inside the hair follicle, a whitehead forms. Blackheads form in areas where more oil glands exist, usually on the face and get their dark color because of excess skin pigment . When acne is more severe, cysts can develop beneath the skin's surface and can cause scarring. When an acne cyst ruptures, infection can spread into nearby skin tissue.

Adult acne can be difficult to cope with - pimples, no matter your age can cause depression and social anxiety.

Although some women may have breakouts on the chest and back, most have blemishes exclusively on the face. Papules, also known as pimples, zits, bumps, pustules, and small nodules are common of breakouts.

These pustules and papules can be classified as deep or superficial. The deep papules come from under the skin and may be caused by inflammations that are trapped underneath the skin's surface. Superficial papules are those located on the skin surface.

Nodules, large papules or cysts, rarely develop in women with acne. They are firm and very tender lumps that stay on for several weeks or even months and when can leave a noticeable scar.skincare product, facial skincare, face skincare, face, buy skincare, skincare

*Diet does not contribute to acne in most individuals and that there is no evidence that chocolate (thank goodness), sugar, oil, milk, seafood, or any other food causes acne.

*The sun can damage the hair follicles and can trigger acne.

*You should use your bare hands to wash your face because using a washcloth may only aggravate the acne.

Adult acne can be a distressing and frustrating problem. The medications used to treat adult acne are the same as those that treat teenage acne. No home treatments for acne will work immediately. It can take weeks, if not months, for significant effects to be noticeable.

Over-the-counter remedies are available from a pharmacy to treat mild acne. Benzoyl peroxide can help minimize bacterial growth on the skin and encourage it to shed the surface layer of dead skin. It is very harsh on the skin. Some products that contain Benzoil Peroxide, such as Proactiv and Exposed, can cause redness and even unsightly peeling,

Diagnosis

There is no exact diagnosis for adult-onset acne. It can be easily be confused by a health care provider with other acne-like disorders, for example- rosacea. Hormones can be the culprit of adult acne and blood tests should be performed by your physician to look for higher or lower than normal hormone levels. In addition, adult acne can be caused and enhanced by the intake of pills containing hormones (oral contraceptives) and drugs that have hormonal effects, like those seen in some food products, steroids and allergy medications.

5 Things You Should Know Before Treating Acne

1. Know your skin type. People with oily skin should choose a gel based product, those with dry skin should choose a cream. If you have combination skin, choose the product that best works with the afflicted area. If your acne flares up in the oily spots, choose a gel, if it is the dry skin that gets the zits, choose an acne cream.

2. Choosing a product that is too strong could actually make the situation worse by over drying the area and causing the skin to react by increasing oil production. This can end up causing more acne. If you have sensitive skin, stick with the milder formulations. The more sensitive your skin, the lower concentration of active ingredient you will need.

3. Read the labels carefully and only apply the medication to places that are acne prone or actually have acne present. Some mild creams can be used as a preventative measure, but most acne creams are too harsh to be used before you see or feel a zit.

4. If the acne is excessively painful, or if it becomes painful after trying an OTC product, try taking an anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen and get to a doctor ASAP.

5. If your skin has large pustules that appear in clusters, if they are painful, if your acne causes scars, or if you can't seem to get rid of a blemish (it starts to go away only to reappear just when you thought it was gone), your acne may require treatment by a doctor.
