MONOFEME

Monofeme Information

Monofeme is an oral contraceptive based on two hormones similar to those that normally exist in the female organism – Levonorgestrel and Ethinyloestradiol. This pharmaceutical product prevents pregnancy in several ways: it stops egg maturation thus inhibiting their release, it changes the consistency of the cervical mucus reducing the chances for the sperm to reach the egg and also it alters the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) so that it is less suitable for egg implantation. It should be noted that, as with all oral contraceptives, Monofeme does not offer a 100% guarantee against pregnancy.

Monofeme Indications

Monofeme is mainly prescribed to female patients in order to prevent pregnancy. There may be other uses for this medicine as well in the case of both male and female patients. If you would like to obtain further information regarding the possible uses of this medicine or if you have any questions regarding why you have been prescribed this pharmaceutical product it is best that you seek the advice of your personal health care professional.

Monofeme Warnings

Oral contraceptives – including Monofeme – should not be prescribed to patients that are suffering from angina pectoris, stroke, blood clots in the lungs, eyes or legs, other cardiac disorders that may be caused by or associated with blood clot formation, uncontrolled hypertension, severe headache / migraine, liver disease, diabetes (especially when blood vessel damage is present), vaginal bleeding of unknown cause or several types of cancer (cancer of the womb, vagina or cervix, breast cancer, liver tumors). You should not start taking Monofeme if you have a known or suspected allergy to this or similar medical products, or to any of the medicines ingredients. This pharmaceutical product may not be used during pregnancy (known or suspected) or in the case of children. Smoking patients may have a higher risk of developing side effects while following a therapy course with this medicine.

Monofeme Intake Guidelines

If you are taking contraceptives for the first time, you should start by taking the first Monofeme pill on the first day of menstrual bleeding. You should start by taking a yellow pill from the section marked in gray on the blister pack, the pill that corresponds to the appropriate day of the week. Continue taking one yellow pill per day as guided by the indicator arrows, taking at all times the pill associated with the corresponding day of the week. Once you have taken all 21 yellow pills, start taking the red ones, also one per day for the following 7 days. Begin the next pack on the day after the last red pill, also with the yellow tablet from the gray section of the pack that matches the day of the week.

If you are not taking oral contraceptives for the first time, check with your prescriber to find out how to properly take your Monofeme pills.

Monofeme Dosage

If you have been prescribed Monofeme as an oral contraceptive, you should take one pill each day according to the information inscribed on the blister pack. However, if your prescriber has recommended you to take this medicine for another reason, the dosage may be different. You should always follow your prescriber’s directions regarding the Monofeme dosage. Never exceed the recommended dosage unless have been specifically instructed by a competent health care specialist to take a larger dose.

Monofeme Overdose

You should never take a higher dose of Monofeme than you have been prescribed, as this may prove to be extremely hazardous to your health. If you have any reason to believe that you have ingested too much of this pharmaceutical product, you should contact your personal physician at once or call the local or regional poisons center. The most common symptoms of a Monofeme overdose are dizziness, nausea and vomiting, tiredness or sleepiness.

Monofeme Missed Dose

It is strongly suggested to take your Monofeme doses at the same times each day in order to reduce the chances of missing any of your intakes. If you accidentally miss one of your contraceptive intakes, it is strongly suggested to contact your prescriber in order to determine the appropriate measures that need to be taken.

Monofeme Side Effects
