Symptoms Of Yeast Infection
Treating A Yeast Infection
Prescribed Medications
Diflucan and it's generic, Fluconazole is a very effective and typically prescribed yeast infection medication.
If you have never had a yeast infection before and you think you might have one, it is best to see the doctor and get a proper diagnosis because bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease (STD), can cause vaginal symptoms similar to those of a yeast infection. There are other things that can make you itch also.
Yeast Infection Remedies:
This type of infection is very common and is caused by overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans. Normal human skin and in areas of moisture, such as the mouth and vagina are common places for yeast to be present, but when too much grows, an infection can occur. This infection is not usually serious and treatment is simple.
If you have had a yeast infection before and can recognize the symptoms, Homeopathic yeast Infection medication is not as effective as Diflucan, but many women opt for a more natural remedy.
Tee Tree Oil
The essential 100% Tee Tree Oil, diluted and applied topically to the vaginal area, has shown some potential as a natural home remedy for yeast infection. A compound called terpinen-4-ol in tea tree oil appears to be responsible.
Unfortunately, there haven't been any clinical studies in humans showing that tea tree oil is effective or safe for yeast infection. Until we have more evidence, it should not be recommended. Tea tree oil must be diluted before applying it to the body. Full strength tea tree oil should never be applied to the vaginal area.
If you are unsure whether or not you have a yeast infection, see a physician.

There are things you can do to relieve your irritating itching and burning until the yeast infection diagnosis is made:
-wear the loosest clothes you have and go without underwear
-crushed ice, frozen peas or frozen corn in a zip lock bag and keep it on the area
-apply over the counter Vagisil until you can get to the doctor
-Benadryl or Dramamine at bedtime may help to control the itching so you can sleep
Do not use an over the counter anti fungal cream without being positive that you have a yeast infection. If you use over-the-counter medicines, read and follow the directions on the package carefully. Do not use over the counter medications if you are pregnant. See your doctor if you have more than 4 yeast infections in a year.
You can purchase yeast infection anti fungal creams and suppositories from your local drug store but, make sure that your symptoms are being caused by a yeast infection and not some other problem. Undiagnosed conditions can be worsened if you treat yourself with these medications and you really have something else. Plus, taking anti fungal medication without having a fungal infection can increase the risk of getting a hard-to-treat infection in the future. So, see a physician if you have any questions.
